Why are my homeowner's insurance rates going up

This has to be one of the number one questions asked of any insurance agent and their are a number of reasons why insurance rates go up.  Here are the two main reasons experts identified why homeowner's insurance premiums are increasing.  1. Increase in Severe Weather Events 2. The Growing Population; more structures and buildings in the path of destruction.  We are in the midst of a very long term trend.  Insurance companies must get adequate rate to pay claims and maintain their financial rating for policy and shareholders.

So remember, just because you have not filed a home claim that you are part of a "shared risk" and your rate will be reflective of other policy holders with the same insurance company.

The good news: The Badger State ranks 48th lowest in the United States based on its average homeowner's premiums.  Even with the increase cost looming, the cost of coverage remains considerably lower in Wisconsin than most other states

Does insurance scoring affect my credit score when I shop for auto or home insurance?

Insurance scoring is based on your credit score and the likelihood that you will file an insurance claim within a given period of time in the future.  Actuaries have proven a definite correlation between low credit scores and a higher than average incidence of claims.  More accurate pricing helps responsible consumers.  Without credit scoring most people would be forced to pay more than they should for insurance.

Now we could debate this first paragraph all day long and whether it's fair or not but lets save that for another day.

An inquiry will be added to your credit report each time an insurance company accesses your credit report. But, the inquiries will have NO effect on credit scores or lending decisions.

Insurance inquiries are shown only on your personal credit report. They are not provided to lenders, so they are not considered in credit score calculations or lending decisions. The inquiries are treated the same way as inquiries for employment purposes, preapproved credit offers, and requests from you for a personal credit report.

So there you go, what are you waiting for, give me a call and let's get some alternative proposals.

Does my insurance extend to my rental car when I travel into Mexico?

Oh how I wish my wife and I were on our way to sunny Mexico right about now.  Anyway, if you are planning a trip to Mexico and will be renting a vehicle there plan on purchasing a Mexican auto insurance policy from a Mexican auto insurance company.  The auto insurance provided by your United States auto insurance company is NOT recognized in Mexico for liability.  Do not mess around; here is a great link for purchasing auto insurance for your rental car when in Mexico that I have had other clients use and I would recommend setting this up before arriving in Mexico.  The premiums are not very high either.

Do not drink and drive in Mexico, your insurance could be null and void and you could end up in jail.  They take this very, very serious.

Here is a great video for you to watch with the top 10 tips when traveling to Mexico.  BE SAFE...
