My very good friend and his wife endured this brutal house fire in Hartland on 11/12/14. Thank God everyone made it out safe and will be around for the holidays. I wanted to share the #1 thing he emphasized to me after ta
lking with him. HOME INVENTORY, which I stress to all of my clients. Especially if you have a lot of STUFF. I know, nothing like this will happen to you and this only happens to other people, but please, go around your home with a video recorder or camera and take photos of every room and all of your contents. Use that handy dandy smart phone for something other than Facebook and Instagram. I can assure you that your claim will be adjusted and your life made whole much quicker if this ever happens to you.
At a time of loss like this, so many things are running thru your head and live has to continue. You have to keep working to pay the bills and you have to keep taking care of your kids to not disrupt their lives. The last thing you want to think about is what items did I even have in my house. The emotional trauma of going thru a huge house fire like this can leave you in great depression. Make it easier on yourselves and take the time before something like this ever happens and document your home inventory so in the event of a claim you can go back to that and start replacing all of your items right away.
The sooner you are made whole again, the sooner you can move on from this terrible tragedy.
PS- Remember to leave your home inventory photos, lists and videos OFF premise. I will gladly store them in your file at my agency on your behalf.
